Greeniversity in the Forest
Location – Water Spinney Date: - 20th November, 2009 Weather: light rain Objective: - seeking ancient wood management courses for the Greeniversity. Time :- 10am.
Ray Baker is a fighter. Many years ago the future of the ancient wood at Westwood, that dates from the sixteenth century, was in danger of becoming an overgrown eyesore and faced total obliteration.
With zeal, negotiating skill, doggedness and a belief that the wood could and should be an asset for the people of Ravensthorpe Ray’s determination paid off. Today the woods are cleared of undergrowth, pathways and rustic seating are testament to a project that was one year in the planning and three years of hard work to completion. There is still work to do and Ray has generously offered to school learners from the Greeniversity in the craft of ancient woodland management. If you have an interest register with us now at greeniversity.org.uk – it is free.
